Background: Zn(II) meso-tetraphenylporphine (1-3% chlorin) is a synthetic porphyrin specialty chemical manufactured by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. Zn(II) meso-tetraphenylporphine has been used as an ionophore for a cyanide ion selective electrode.1 Zn(II) meso-tetraphenylporphine  and quantum dots were used to modify colloidal silica beads  for colorimetric sensing of ammonia.2 The photophysical properties of Zn(II) meso-tetraphenylporphine and similar Zn(II) porphyrins have been reported.3 Zn(II) meso-tetraphenylporphine  acts as a initiator for free-radical polymerization by homomolecular triplet fusion.4
