Company

Since its inception in 1975, Frontier Specialty Chemicals (FSCI) mission has focused on the pursuit of innovative chemistry applications, products and services that can improve the human condition, address industry needs, and increase Company value while conducting our business with integrity while fostering a safe inclusive-respectful workplace.

Company History

Frontier Specialty Chemicals (FSCI) was founded in 1975 by Dr. Bruce Burnham under the name Porphyrin Products, Inc.   Dr. Burnham perceived a need for Porphyrin and related compounds and soon found that as he made the compounds available that new research was spawned.  A listing of standard compounds soon generated requests for custom compounds and projects.

An outside party contracted the Company in the mid 1980’s to develop a Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) drug. This project culminated in a GMP production of an inject-able PDT drug for Phase I clinical trials. Due to economic conditions in the early 1990’s the project was taken to another country to continue the Phase II and Phase III clinical trials.

In 1995, a group of investors purchases the Company from Dr. Burnham who was experiencing health concerns.  This core group of investors have kept the Company private and agile in responding to new scientific opportunities.

In 1997, the Company expanded into additional areas of chemistry with new and novel compounds, many of which are only available from the Company.  Included in those was being the first company to commercial offer a wide variety of boronic acids and diboron reagents.   With that expansion, the Company changed its name in 1998 to Frontier Scientific, Inc (although the name Porphyrin Products is still used to market Porphyrin compounds).

FSCI was contracted by a major industrial chemical company for manufacture of custom compounds. FSCI manufactured up to 100 kg of specific compounds with purity requirements of > 99.5%. Frontier’s reputation for high purity and on time delivery has been built with experience.

FSCI produced an intermediate compound for a pharmaceutical company that was used in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials. This project started in the gram quantity and grew to greater than 50 Kg.   Again, the purity was an essential element to the customer as well as timely delivery.   Custom chemistry continues to be a significant part of Company’s business.

FSCI has contracted with multiple companies on a Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) basis and Fee For Service (FFS) basis for proprietary custom chemical production and optimization of chemical processes.

FSCI has produced molecules that have been passed on to GMP production partners to produce pharmaceuticals that have been or are now in phase one, two or three clinical trials.

FSCI has produced for years and continues to supply a molecule that is a key part of an FDA approved Continuous Glucose Monitor medical device.

Over the last 15 years, Frontier Specialty Chemicals has expanded its scientific reach by adding other divisions or sister companies to handle Biochemical reagents assays and screening services.

Currently, FSCI presents customer synthesis capabilities and a catalog of products with production quantities ranging from the milligram to multi-kilogram scale in reactors from microscale to 400-liters.   Analytical instrumentation includes a 400 MHz NMR, HPLCs, LC/MSs and preparative/ analytical HPLCs.   Much has changed in Chemistry since our inception, but what has remained constant is our commitment to provide Chemistry solutions that can improve the human condition and address industry needs.
