Background & Applications:

Background

Dansyl-PEG4-azide is an azide-functionalized PEG conjugate featuring a PEG4 spacer linking a terminal azide group to a dansyl (dimethylaminonaphthalene sulfonamide) fluorophore. The polyethylene glycol segment provides hydrophilicity, flexibility, and improved solubility, while spatially separating the fluorescent moiety from the reactive azide. The azide functionality enables efficient bioorthogonal click chemistry, including CuAAC and strain-promoted azide–alkyne cycloaddition, allowing site-specific attachment to alkynyl-functionalized molecules or surfaces. The dansyl group is a well-known environment-sensitive fluorophore, making this compound a multifunctional building block within a diverse portfolio of functionalized PEGs that combine linker chemistry with optical functionality.

Applications

This azido-PEG–dansyl derivative is commonly used in bioconjugationfluorescent labeling, and chemical probe development applications where both conjugation capability and optical detection are required. Typical uses include click-based attachment of fluorescent tags to biomolecules, polymers, or surfaces, preparation of labeled intermediates for diagnostics and imaging, and incorporation into materials for sensing or mechanistic studies. The combination of click-reactive azide functionality and a fluorescent reporter group enables modular design of probes for biological and materials research. As part of a comprehensive functionalized PEG product line, this compound supports advanced strategies in diagnostics, biomaterials, and specialty chemical applications.
