Background: Ir(III) Octaethylporphine chloride is a synthetic porphyrin specialty chemical manufactured by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. Ir(III) Octaethylporphine chloride was found to be a competent catalyst for intramolecular CH-insertion of diazo compounds.1 Ir(III) Octaethylporphine chloride was found to react with primary alcohols under basic conditions to yield the corresponding alkylated Ir(III) porphyrin complexes.2 Ir(III) porphyrins are strongly phosphorescent oxygen indicators with tunable photophysical properties.3-4 Conjugation of Ir(III) Octaethylporphine chloride to histidine functionalized peptides allows for cellular penetration and allowing for sensing cellular oxygen concentrations.5
