Background: Porphine is a synthetic specialty chemical manufactured by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. Porphine is the simplest porphyrin since it is completely unsubstituted. The corresponding Mg(II) adduct can be mono-meso functionalized electrochemically.1 The solid state electrochemistry of porphine in water was reported.2 Porphine and simple derivatives have been separated by HPLC.3 An overview of the chemistry, spectroscopy, theory and applications of porphine was published.4
