Background: Zn(II) meso-Tetra (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphine tetrasodium salt is a synthetic  porphyrin specialty chemical manufactured by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. Zn(II) meso-Tetra (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphine tetrasodium salt was used as a photosensitizer for visible light driven enantioselective synthesis of L-lactate from pyruvate.1 Zn(II) meso-Tetra (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphine tetrasodium salt has also been used for the synthesis of fumarate from pyruvate by a similar process.2
