Background: Pyropheophorbide-a methyl ester is a natural porphyrin specialty chemical manufactured by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. Pyropheophorbide-a methyl ester has been investigated as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy.1The photophysical properties of Pyropheophorbide-a methyl ester have been reported. 2,3 Modification of Pyropheophorbide-a methyl ester produced compounds useful for non-linear optical imaging.4
