Sulfones

Sulfones, or sulfonyl functional groups, are attached to two carbon atoms. The central hexavalent sulfur atom has two double-bonded oxygen atoms. They are produced by the oxidation of thioethers, and are found in nature, in medicines and in polymers and engineered plastics.
