Background: meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride is a synthetic porphyrin specialty chemical produced by Frontier Specialty Chemicals. A quantum dot FRET assembly containing meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride was shown to be an effective radiometric Zn(II) sensor.1  Atomic Force microscopy was used to investigate the structure of J-aggregates formed by meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride.2  pH dependent exciton coupling was observed for self-assembled peptide-porphyrin complexes with meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride.3 meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride was used as a fluorescence based reporter of structural changes of human albumin induced by guanidine hydrochloride.4 In the presence of potassium iodide, meso-Tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine dihydrochloride is effective as a photosensitizer for antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation.5
