Ethers

Ether compounds possess an oxygen atom bonded to two carbon atoms. Ethers can be classed as epoxides, the simplest 3-member ring, cyclic, linear, polyoxy, and polyoxo forms. A diverse family, they can be anaesthetics, fragrances, while larger forms such as PEG chains and macrocycles such as crown ethers are possible. Useful in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
